Former boxing champion Jamie Moore believes Manny Pacquiao should retire following his loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. during their record-setting showdown in May.

Moore told On The Ropes Boxing Radio that now is the perfect time for Pacquiao to call it quits. The British boxer admires the Filipino boxing icon, but he thinks Pacquiao will not be as dangerous as he was before, when he was still knocking out one opponent after another.

"I think maybe the time is right now for Pacquiao to walk away from boxing," Moore said. "I don't think he's ever going to hit the heights where he did before, and he doesn't have anything left to achieve and he doesn't need to do it financially."

Pacquiao, who holds a 57-6 record with 38 knockout victories, is still recovering a shoulder injury, which he reportedly sustained while training for his fight against Mayweather. The undefeated champion eventually scored a convincing unanimous decision victory against his nemesis.

Once he recovers from the injury, Pacquiao is expected to face another high-ranked opponent. Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach recently said that they are considering facing Danny Garcia and Amir Khan in early 2016.

Pacquiao and his camp are also pushing for a rematch with Mayweather, but it appears the undefeated champion is determined to retire after his scheduled bout against Andre Berto on Sept. 12 in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao is eager to prove he has a lot of gas left in his tank despite taking a lopsided decision loss to Mayweather. But for Moore, the former pound-for-pound has nothing to prove anymore.

Moore said that returning could do more harm than good to his legacy, especially if he gets knocked out again like what happened in December 2012 against Juan Manuel Marquez.

"I think his legacy has been built now and it's intact and I wouldn't want to see him ruin it now because he got knocked out pretty badly by Marquez and I wouldn't like to see him get knocked out by somebody who wasn't capable of knocking him out before then," Moore said.

Earlier this year, Philippine president Benigno Aquino III also urged Pacquiao to retire for health reasons.
