HBO’s ‘Flight of the Conchords’ Getting Film Produced
In an interview with Indiewire to promote his new film, "Flight of the Conchords" actor Jemaine Clement revealed that there will also be a "Conchords" film on the agenda.
Although the film is in its earliest stages, Clement's reveal means that the project is being taken seriously and would be a real possibility for the future.
"We have actually started writing one [a script for 'Conchords']," Clement told Indiewire. "But who knows if it will ever be made, we've written some notes for some different film ideas. We're not down to the stage where we're going, 'The film is going to be like this,' it could be this, this, this, this, this."
In the original HBO series that was part comedy, part folk musical, Clement starred alongside Bret McKenzie as two folk musicians from New Zealand who comically engage with the people of New York, genuinely enamored with their own cultural styles, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The two took on a satiric theme in the series where their characters were dismissive of events that played out around them and they always seemed to have a bright outlook on issues moving forward. They befriended the New Zealand Deputy Cultural Attaché and had a geeky woman (Kristen Schaal) who was their number one fan and always showed up to their shows, no matter where they were at.
Schaal's character was a married woman and their only fan. She stalked the duo and they stoically dismissed her everywhere they went.
Clement revealed at the Sundance Film Festival this year the he would like to tour with McKenzie again. There have been no confirmed dates for the duo yet, but if the film takes off, then they may end up with a loaded schedule.
Clement has been busy with other films, which includes his current releases "People Places Things" and "What We Do in the Shadows."
