Petition Circulates For Jon Stewart to Moderate Presidential Debates
A petition on Change.org to secure Jon Stewart as the moderator for presidential debates has circulated now and already reached 177,000 signatures, at the time this article is being written.
The petition seeks to install the former "Daily Show" host as the moderator for this upcoming campaign season and cited several reasons why. Among them, it is his experience that tops the list.
Even though Stewart's brand of news reporting was mostly satirical and comedy at its core, he was cited in the petition to have "interviewed 15 heads of state, 22 members of the United States Cabinet, 32 members of the United States Senate, 7 members of the United States House of Representatives, and scores of other political leaders from this country and around the world while establishing himself as the most trusted person in (satirical) news."
Of course, this is a truly unique resume to be brought in as a moderator for the debates. But most of his opponents, mostly conservative, will likely voice their opinion against Stewart as the moderator of these events.
Republicans and conservatives have long been on the receiving end of Stewart's comically exploitative satire, but at the same time called out for their actions as leaders of the state.
As cited in the petition, Stewart has a genuinely favorable rating amongst people who trust him, according to recent polls by Reuters/Ipsos. The polls indicate that 52 percent of people share his views on the world and current issues.
The petition seeks to install Stewart as the moderator in one of the three debates that will lead up to the 2016 general election in November.
It should also be noted that in the time it took to write this article, the petition has climbed to 178,000 signatures. The goal of this petition was to reach 200,000 signatures, which it seems to be well on track to do so in record time.
