In what appears to be a nod to his legendary childhood idol, "Jackass" star Johnny Knoxville has brought a new documentary to life about Robert "Evel" Knievel, according to Deadline.

The documentary, "Being Evel," is more of a nod to someone that Knoxville grew up idolizing and eventually portraying similar stunts on his now-defunct MTV series "Jackass." The documentary explores the rise of the daredevil extraordinaire, who came about in the '70s and introduced a new fad in the U.S. and gave birth to the era of extreme sporting.

His dangerous stunts came at a steep price though. He was known for making 75 jumps, ramp-to-ramp, over various things with his motorcycle during his career, which included breaking every bone in his body.

Oliver Simon's production company picked up the flick for distribution after the Sundance premiere and he had a few amazing things to say about the film.

"Evel Knievel is emblazoned on the brains of every middle-aged man who ever owned a bicycle, some bricks and a wooden ramp," Simon told Deadline. "But he was also the blueprint for an entirely new generation of extreme sports fanatics who have helped it grow into a multi-billion dollar global business."

Knoxville also had a few things to say about what brought him aboard the project.

"I was very busy at the time preparing for 'Bad Grandpa,' but we felt it was something that was right in our wheelhouse [and] I was a huge fan," Knoxville said.

The film was the brainchild of Daniel Junge and Knoxville served as a producer for the film, alongside Jeff Tremaine and Matt Hoffman from Dickhouse Productions, and Brendan Kiernan and Justin Moore-Lewy at HeLo.

Simon's production company K5 International, which is a co-venture with Daniel Bauer, has picked up the film for distribution, and there has been some chatter on the film in the award's circuit.
