Justin Bieber Tour Update Summer 2015: Star Pulls Plug on Montreal Gig Over Lack of Payment
Justin Bieber has backed out of a scheduled weekend performance in Montreal amid a simmering dispute with promoters over compensation.
TMZ reports Bieber has pulled the plug on his Saturday night gig scheduled for the Beachclub, where he was expected to sing one or two songs and socialize with audience members. The venue is the same establishment were Kylie Jenner recently celebrated her 18th birthday and reportedly was paid $200,000.
"We are incredibly disappointed and upset by the lack of professionalism exhibited by Team Productions [the event's promoter] in violating their contract with Justin Bieber and disappointing the thousands of fans that were going to flock to Beachclub today," said a source close to Bieber.
TMZ adds the deal with Bieber reportedly called for him to be paid half of his "couple hundred thousand dollars" when the contract was signed and the remainder a few days before the event.
Reports are Bieber received the first half of the money, but as the day of the scheduled performance drew closer, never got the balance owed.
According to TMZ, Jenner's bash proved to a windfall for everyone involved, with the club owner and the promoters all netting six-figure paychecks. Reportedly, the event took in $300,000 at the door.
While Beachclub owner Olivier Primeau wouldn't divulge how much he made, he did reveal he felt comfortable enough to invest an extra $30,000 into the event to make certain everything went flawlessly.
Reportedly, some of the extras included $10,000 for 100 extra security guards, $4,000 for a pair of specially built bathrooms close to the stage where Kylie would be positioned, and $1,500 to build a deck for her grand entrance so she wouldn't have to make her trek through the sand while wearing heels.
