AMC ‘Fear The Walking Dead' Pilot Episode Recap and Spoilers
Last night, the beginning of the end started on AMC in an explosive premiere episode for companion series "Fear The Walking Dead." According to Rolling Stone, it was quite a nice ride.
The series, which is a prequel to the megahit AMC show "The Walking Dead," brought fans back to the beginning. In the first three minutes, fans saw that Patient Zero was just a young girl who seemed to be a victim of circumstance. Her name was Gloria and she was the one reigned in the apocalypse of Walkers in the fictional universe created by Robert Kirkman.
Gloria was the girlfriend of series star Nick (Frank Dillane), who awakes following a drug fueled episode the night before only to find her feasting on other junkies in the abandoned church that doubled as a safe haven for addicts.
Nick quickly exits the church and runs into a street that is still lively with civilization. The apocalypse had not quite made it that far out yet. He is then hit by a car that brings his story to a safe conclusion, at least for the moment. He is taken to a hospital.
Fans are then introduced to Madison (Kim Dickens), who is presumed to be the series star, a matriarchal heroine waiting in the shadows to be released for duty. Her character for now will settle as the widowed mother of two who is a school guidance counselor. She is engaged in a passionate affair with Travis (Cliff Curtis), who is a divorced father to a son, and an English teacher.
The pace is incredibly slow for a zombie series, but it starts to pick up once they visit Nick in the hospital and start hearing the stories on TV.
Nick is an addict and will no doubt be suffering from withdrawal soon enough. But when he breaks out of his hospital room to find his dealer, he is more interested in finding answers about what happened to Gloria.
The climax that ushers in the creepers involves a scene in LA's concrete river and some lethal force that introduces fans to where survival began in the universe.
