"Captain America: Civil War" has officially ended principal photography, moving the hotly anticipated studio release closer toward being a finished product.

The news was announced on Twitter by Marvel co-president Louis D'Esposito. "#CaptainAmericaCivilWar wrapped principle photography today. Congratulations to the Russo brothers and the entire cast and crew," he wrote.

There was also a picture of the cast posted on Facebook, which included Chris Evans (Captain America), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier) and Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther).

The new film is among the most hotly anticipated in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a number of reasons. Not only will it finally pit the superheroes against one another, but it will bring a host of new characters to the fore. Audiences will get their first glimpses of the Black Panther and more prominently Spider-Man.

The latter superhero has yet to be featured in any major promotions for the film, though audiences do know that he will be played by Tom Holland in the new movie, taking up the mantle from Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as previous interpreters of the web-slinger.

Though there has been no confirmation most believe that the two armies will be as follows. Captain American will do battle alongside Falcon, Bucky Barnes, Scarlet Witch, Ant-Man and Hawkeye while Iron Man teams up with War Machine, Vision, Black Widow and Spider-Man. Jeremy Renner, the man behind Hawkeye recently confirmed that he is in fact siding with Captain America.

The Hulk is also rumored to be the film and could be taking part in Iron Man's team, especially considering Bruce Banner's relationship with Tony Stark. It also helps the Black Widow is working with Stark and is in love with Banner.

The only major Avenger not getting any time in this big screen bonanza is Thor, who many believe to be on the outs in future Marvel installments.

The new movie hits theaters on May 6, 2016.
