Manny Pacquiao Next Fight: Amir Khan is Not Tough Enough To Beat ‘Pacman’ in 2016
Manny Pacquiao could face British boxer Amir Khan in his comeback fight next year. Most fans are intrigued by the showdown, but heavyweight boxer Sherman Williams believes it could become a one-sided affair.
Williams told On The Ropes Boxing Radio that Pacquiao will have an easy night against Khan because he is convinced the latter does not have the tools to give Pacquiao a run for his money.
Williams said that Khan, a former junior welterweight world champion, is not mentally tough enough to score an upset against an experienced fighter like Pacquiao.
"Pacquiao all the way," Williams said, when asked to predict the possible outcome of the rumored Pacquiao-Khan bout. "Manny beats Khan pretty easy, Amir has never seemed to be a mentally tough fighter. He's got talent, he's a typical British boxer, he likes to show off but of course his mental toughness is questionable, big time."
Pacquiao, who holds a 57-6 record with 38 knockouts, is coming off a unanimous decision loss to Floyd Mayweather Jr. during their historic bout in May in Las Vegas.
The Filipino boxing icon is still recovering from a shoulder injury he sustained while training for the bout against Mayweather, but he is already eyeing a comeback fight in early 2015.
Top Rank Promotions CEO Bob Arum told Sky Sports that he has already talked to Khan's camp about a possible showdown next year in Dubai, and the ball is now on the hands of Pacquiao.
In a recent interview with Boxing News Online, trainer Freddie Roach said that Danny Garcia is on top of their list of possible opponents in early 2016, but the Hall of Fame coach also added that they will be open to facing Khan, although he thinks staging the fight in Dubai is a long shot.
"I'd definitely be interested in the fight," Roach said of the Pacquiao-Khan bout. "They're two fast guys, they have history as they've trained together, sparred a few rounds together and it's a good fight for both guys. People have spoken to me about a fight with Amir."
Khan, who holds a 31-3 record with 19 knockout victories, is coming off a unanimous decision victory against former light welterweight world champion Chris Algieri during the 147-pound bout in May.
