Michele Savoia Found: Popular NYC Fashion Designer Fell Into Hudson River
New Yorkers feared the worst when fashion designer Michele Savoia went missing on Thursday night after a night at club Marquee in Manhattan.
Soon enough, the fears turned into a reality when the New York Police Department announced that his body was found in the Hudson River on Sunday.
Savoia's body was found near his house boat in Manhattan, and according to reports from the police and CNN, foul play does not appear to be a factor in this situation.
Police initially searched the water but never found anything, according to TV reports. However, it was not until the daytime on Sunday that law enforcement was able to find the body after divers searched the waters near his boat. Sources told the Daily News that he likely slipped off a gangplank on his boat.
According to The New York Daily News, the fashion designer was known for his 1930s-style clothing. Savoia was also reportedly known for making suits for Robert de Niro and also dressed up stars such as Tom Hanks and Ricky Martin, among others.
The NY Daily News caught up with his girlfriend, Juliane Berg, who at least found some closure in the fact that Savoia was found and is no longer missing, but was clearly distraught after hearing the official news.
"I knew he was in that water. I am so glad they found his body," she said. "It's icy, snowy and windy. And the water was really, really rough."
Berg described the initial worries she had when she tried reaching out to him when he first was missing.
"I messaged him Thursday to check on him, (writing) 'Are you OK in the storm?'" she said. "I didn't hear from him. He seemed so invincible. It shouldn't have ended like this for him. It is so tragic."
