‘The Curse of Downers Grove,’ Teen Soap Opera and Horror Film, Trailer Released [Watch]
The new film "The Curse of Downers Grove" takes place in a suburb of Chicago and completely encompasses a teen soap opera mixed in with a horror edge that targets seniors in a local high school, according to Variety.
The film, which will get a limited theatrical run, will feature Bella Heathcote in the lead role as Chrissie Swanson, who finds the logic in every situation. The curse is a myth around the town that every year a senior will die. Albeit in former years, the seniors that have died have been victims of circumstance and choice. That ranges from illegal drinking to drug use. The basic elements of teen deaths that are inherent to most societies.
Swanson, however, sees right through the curse and knows that in order to survive it you must first refuse to believe in it. Then, it's all a matter of the choices you make that don't put your life in peril. Logic outweighs the potential for deadly circumstance.
But things change for her when she attends a college party in a neighboring county, which leads to her being almost raped. But like any truly great heroine, she overpowers her attacker and gets immediate revenge on the boy, who turns out to be a star quarterback on the football team.
The injuries she left the boy with force him out of sports, and now, it is him, his friends and the boy's father who are out for revenge. This of course puts Swanson on the hook for the curse that plagues her town, and she must fight against all odds to stay alive against a slew of people guided through by Roid Rage.
The movie is an adaptation from a novel and will feature a limited release in theaters followed by an immediate VOD release on Sept. 1.
