Manny Pacquiao Next Fight: Freddie Roach Wants Danny Garcia for 'Pacman'
If Filipino boxing Icon Manny Pacquiao wants an exciting fight, he should face Danny Garcia next, says his coach, Freddie Roach.
The Hall of Famer trainer clearly favors a bout against Garcia over a clash with World Boxing Council Silver titlist Amir Khan, which he actually predicted to be "boring," Boxing Scene reported. Khan and Pacquiao were once sparring partners under Roach until the British boxer left his Wild Card Gym in 2012 to be trained by Virgil Hunter.
"I like Danny Garcia, I think he's the more exciting fight. Amir Khan and [Pacquiao] have too much of a similar style where it might be a little bit boring - with two in and out boxers with good speed and so forth. I think Danny Garcia comes to fight, I think he looks for knockouts. I like his style and I think he and Pacquiao would be a great matchup," Roach said.
Roach commented on this because Top Rank CEO Bob Arum, who promotes "Pacman," is interested in arranging a fight with Khan (31-3, 19KOs) and his Filipino warrior (57-6-2, 38KOs) early next year, The Telegraph informed.
Contrary to what Roach may be thinking, former world champion Ricky Hatton, who suffered a 2nd round KO loss against "Pacman" in 2009, thinks fans will be on the edge of their seats watching the proposed Pacquiao-Khan battle.
"It's a good fight Amir Khan v Manny Pacquiao - a chess match. I think they would both try and use their speed and movement to win it... I think it will be a bit of a fencing match style-wise and It's a fight you'd pay to see, definitely," Hatton told World Boxing News.
Basing on the sparring session video below, when Pacquiao was training for his 2008 fight against Oscar De La Hoya, a Pacquiao-Khan bout may actually be an interesting event for boxing fans to witness.
However, there's another reason why Roach is eager for "Pacman" to collide with Garcia, instead. Roach was pissed off at how Angel, Danny's father, commented on "Pacman" recently on FightHype, saying "Danny's going to destroy him" especially after Pacquiao got knocked out by Juan Manuel Marquez three years ago.
Thus, Roach wants to prove it otherwise, via a match.
"I want Danny Garcia, that's my choice. That's the easiest fight in the ******* world, you can tell his dad [Angel Garcia] that as well. His dad psyched Amir Khan out but he won't psych Pacquiao out I promise. Pacquiao will knock Garcia out. I like the dad but he talks too much ****," Roach fired back per Boxing News.
