Powerball Numbers and Results Aug 26, 2015: Watch Live Stream of Drawing For $100 Million Jackpot
Wednesday’s chance to make big money playing Powerball is here.
The grand prize is currently at $100 million, with a cash value of $65.1 million. Last Saturday’s winning numbers were 4, 12, 14 , 21, 55 and 7. There were 497,164 regular winners and $6,420,085 in non jackpot money was won.
There are actually nine ways to play Powerball. Though the odds will likely change in October, currently there is a 1 in 175,223,510.00 chance in winning the grand prize and a 1 in 5,153,632.65 chance in winning $1,000,000.
So the odds of winning are slim, but people do win. The main thing a Powerball player has to do, outside of checking the numbers, is hold on to the ticket.
Powerball winners, if we are to believe the finance experts and psychologists consulted for a 2012 NBC piece on the fate of lottery winners, do not end up any happier than the anyone else.
Gail Saltz, a New York City psychiatrist, explained, “Humans tend to have a relatively set point of mood." So after the big win most people tend to bounce right back to that set point.
"Big positive and negative events can have a lasting impact on our happiness, but this impact tends to decrease over time. In some sense, because people have so many facets of their life -- from their job to their friends to their family to their hobbies -- the impact of a change in any one of those facets is less extreme than we think, because many of the other things in our lives stay the same," said Michael Norton, an associate professor at Harvard Business School.
“As a result of this, people tend to adapt to life events and end up closer to where they were than they think they'd be.”
