As Warner Bros. tries to shape the DC world in the vein of Marvel's Cinematic Universe, many fan boys are starting to speculate on whether or not the Joker is actually Robin.

A new theory has arisen online about the identity of the Joker. The latest theory suggests that Robin took up the Joker's mantle after supposedly dying. The rumor started due to the two punctures on Robin's costume in the trailer to the upcoming "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" which match with some wounds on the Joker's shoulders in the "Suicide Squad" promo pictures.

Some have already debunked the speculation. Zack Snyder is reportedly following "The Dark Knight Returns" comic plot line and in that series Robin does not turn into the Joker. This happens in "The Dark Knight Strikes Again," which is the sequel to "Returns."

Liberties have been taken in films and Snyder would definitely not be breaking any rules, especially after Superman killed General Zod in "Man of Steel." Perhaps Snyder plans on combining several storylines into one film.

However, "Suicide Squad" should explain a lot about what is being rumored and should also clarify the character. From the trailer it seems that every character will get a back story in the new film.

The film should also clarify how Warner Bros. plans on uniting the DC world. The Joker is not confirmed in "Batman v Superman" and it is doubtful the character will appear, especially since there are already too many characters in that movie.

"Suicide Squad" was directed by David Ayer and is set for release in the summer of next year.

"Batman v Superman" is slated for a release on March 25. The film will star Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Amy Adams as Louis Lane, and Diane Lane. It also stars Jason Momoa, Gal Gadot and Jesse Eisenberg.
