According to Us Weekly, Aaliyah had plans to work with Jackson on a musical collaboration prior to her death and often cited Jackson as one her biggest musical influences.
"I am a huge fan of Janet," Aaliyah told Rosie O'Donnell in 1997. "I try to mention her in every interview because I want to meet her and maybe at some point in my career collaborate with her."
Later in 2006, Jackson shared her equal admiration for Aaliyah and revealed that Missy Elliot is the person that first introduced the them.
"This is someone that I had the opportunity of meeting only once in my life because of Missy, and we hung out one night," Jackson gushed, adding, "And I really felt like we were gonna become really good friends. What a sweet girl, and one of the most stunning looking women I have ever seen in my life in person, just absolutely gorgeous."
