'Dr. Strange' Casting News, Release Date: Mads Mikkelsen to Play Villain
Mads Mikkelsen is rising quickly through Hollywood and seems set to land a few major roles with Disney.
The biggest recent news is that according to Variety, the "Hannibal" actor is set to play a villain in the upcoming "Doctor Strange," which also features Benedict Cumberbatch. However, the report notes that there has been no confirmation from Marvel on the subject. That film also features Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo and Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One.
"Dr. Strange" is not the only Disney property Mikkelsen will be a part of as he has already been cast in the forthcoming "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story." However that role also remains a mystery, and Mikkelsen himself has been ambiguous about what his involvement will include.
"No, my character is actually not a bad guy, and I can't say anymore," Mikkelsen stated during an interview with a Danish Outlet Ekstra Bladet according to Den of Geek. "I can say that the movie will be shot in Iceland and England. And the filming will last for three months."
He added the character he was portraying was "a very important role that much I can say."
Some originally thought that he could play Grand Moff Tarkin, but recent news revealed that digital technology would be employed to bring the Imperial Commander to life.
Mikkelsen's resume is expansive. He has starred in a plethora of foreign films but has also made a name for himself in the U.S.
In 2008 he starred as Le Chiffre opposite Daniel Craig in "Casino Royale." In 2010 he was in "Clash of the Titans." In Denmark some of his most recent acclaimed work has come in such films as "Valhalla Rising," "A Royal Affair" and Thomas Vinterberg's "The Hunt." He won the best actor award at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival for his work in "The Hunt." Of course these days Mikkelsen has garnered a huge following for his work on the recently cancelled "Hannibal."
