‘Dancing with the Stars’ Alum Amy Purdy Gets Hitched
World-class snowboarder, Amy Purdy, has had a number of highlights in her career, but it would be hard to top this most recent one. The "Dancing with the Stars" Season 18 finalist tied the knot with her long-time love, Daniel Gale, in an intimate wedding last Saturday, Aug. 29.
According to People, Purdy, 35, and Gale, 39, finally exchanged vows after spending 14 years together and getting engaged last May.
"We felt it was just finally time to come together and make a commitment to each other," Purdy told People in an interview.
Despite the couple's celebrity status, they opted for a simple ceremony to celebrate their special day. The loved-up pair exchanged vows in front of 160 of their closest family and friends at The Barn at Hidden Springs in Boise, Idaho.
"I am not an over-the-top kind of person," Purdy explained her choice of a small ceremony. "I just wanted it to feel outdoorsy and simple. It's all very bohemian."
Meanwhile, the groom took to Instagram to express his joy. Posting a photo of the couple in their wedding best, he said, "We are married #AF!! It's an amazing feeling. Love you baby! @amypurdygirl Thank you everyone who was [sic] there. That was unreal!"
His new wife seemed equally ecstatic as she posted the same photo on her Instagram page. Purdy shared her blissful day with her followers saying, "What an unbelievably magical night! By far the best of our lives!! We were fortunate to have the most special people of our lives all come together to celebrate! We even had a rainbow that appeared above us! I honestly can not imagine a more perfect special and fun celebration!"
Before the wedding, the bride-to-be talked to E! News about some of the action going on behind the scenes.
"Love for Lemons are doing some of our dresses," she revealed in an interview last July. "I am doing a mixture of dresses, different designers for the bridesmaids dresses. I actually don't have my wedding dress yet so I can't tell you much about that."
The rustic wedding suited the active pair, who joined "The Amazing Race" as a couple for the show's 21st season in 2012. Last year, the blonde beauty showed off her repertoire of talents in DWTS Season 18, finishing second place alongside her partner Derek Hough.
Purdy, a celebrated snowboarder and Paralympic medalist, lost both her legs to bacterial meningitis when she was 19. In 2005, she and Gale founded a non-profit organization Adaptive Action Sports, which helps people with physical disabilities, get opportunities to play adaptive snowboarding and skateboarding.
