"The Amazing Spider-Man" star Andrew Garfield wants to see Spider-Man in the Avengers.

Garfield, who played Spider-man in the reboot franchise from 2012, has been very supportive of Sony and Marvel's plans to restart the Spider-Man franchise, and he is now happy to see the character go to the Avengers.

The actor told Uproxx, "I've been petitioning to hook up with Marvel since the beginning, so I'm really glad they're finally doing it...To be honest [pauses], all the ins and outs of what happened is a more tender conversation that maybe I don't want to talk about in public in a press situation. But all I can say is that I'm stoked to go and watch a Marvel film of Spider-Man."

Garfield was originally scheduled for a third film, but plans were cancelled after the second film, which was released in 2014, flopped both financially and critically. However, the actor revealed details about the originally planned movie, and said that he and the writers were already in discussions about where Peter Parker's journey would go.

He said, "I was actually starting to workshop ideas with Alex Kurtzman, who was going to be writing it. We thought to kind of start from the base level, the foundational level of where have we left Peter and where do we want to see him go and what's logical. And how do we build upon where we left off with this deep, desperate moment with Gwen? So, yeah, we got to some pretty heavy places and I was really excited to kind of explore it and be involved on the ground level like that. But, anyway, it wasn't meant to be. As I say, I'm just really excited that I get to watch."

Garfield is currently promoting his critically acclaimed film "99 Homes," which is due out this month and also stars Michael Shannon. He will also be seen in Martin Scorsese's "Silence." The Golden Globe nominee is best known for his work on "The Social Network" and "Never Let Me Go."

The new Spider-Man will make his marvel debut next year in "Captain America: Civil War" and will be played by Tom Holland ("The Impossible"). The first standalone film will be out in 2017.
