The Samsung Gear S2 will be released in three different versions, each with different features and designs.

Samsung originally released small bits of information on the Gear S2 smartwatch a few weeks ago, CNet reportsThey promised to release more information at the IFA electronics trade show in Berlin on Sept. 3.

Before IFA this Thursday, Samsung released the fact that the Gear S2 would come out in three different models. It was thought earlier that the smartwatch would be released in two different models, one with a larger face and one with a smaller face, according to Android Authority.

The Gear S2 will have a round face and a rotating dial. The smartwatch will run Samsung's operating system Tizen, instead of Android Wear. It is not surprising that Samsung is choosing to introduce three versions of the Gear S2 because the company has already introduced five versions of its Galaxy smartphone this year.

Samsung is also promising impressive battery life on the Gear S2, far better than the Apple Watch. Samsung says that the Gear S2 can last two to three days on a single charge. By comparison, the Apple Watch needs to be charged everyday.

Samsung's announcement of three Gear S2 smartwatches comes on the same day that Google announced that their Android Wear smartwatches will now work with the Apple iPhone. This means Google can now reach out to millions more users, and their hardware partners like LG and ASUS can market to iPhone owners. In the past, these Android Wear watches only worked with Android phones. Samsung smartwatches have only worked with Samsung phones to date.

Samsung beat Apple to the smartwatch market by a year and a half with their first entry, the Galaxy Gear in 2013. In 2014, five more smartwatches came from Samsung. The Gear S2 will be Samsung's first smartwatch for 2015, which is the year that Apple has reached second place as the most popular wearable company.

However, those hoping the new Gear S2 would be, at least, the same price as its predecessor should not get their hopes up. Tech Advisor reports the smartwatch could cost more than the Gear S.
