Mega Millions Numbers & Results Aug 28, 2015: Live Stream of Drawing Time; $74M Jackpot
So you'd like to start out September as a brand new millionaire? To make that dream at least a tiny bit more likely, you might want to grab a Mega Millions ticket today, before tuning in at 11 p.m. EDT tonight. That's when the draw for the $74 million jackpot is set to take place at the studios of WSB-TV, Atlanta's ABC affiliate.
If a lucky winner takes home the jackpot tonight, he or she will have the choice between the total prize, paid out in annual installments over a 29-year period, or an immediate payout of a lump sum of $46 million. Before you agonize over that decision, however, consider that the odds of winning the jackpot are about 1 in 259 million.
The lottery's winning numbers from the last drawing, on Aug. 28, were 13, 35, 40, 60 and 68; the Mega Ball number was 9; and the Megaplier number was 4, according to the game's official website.
The estimated jackpot was $64 million, but no one matched the winning Mega Millions numbers on that day. The Aug. 28 drawing did produce one new millionaire, however, since a lucky player matched five numbers without the Megaplier option and thus took home $1 million, the multistate lottery reported.
Another $1 million win, this one on a ticket sold in western Michigan in late May, meanwhile, is still unclaimed, MLive noted. There is no rush yet, however, because the champion has one year to claim the prize; but if he or she does not do so by May 26, 2016, the money will go to Michigan's School Aid Fund, the web site detailed.
Mega Millions drawings take place every Tuesday and Friday, and the draw entry closes at 10:45 p.m. EDT. Tickets to the game are sold in 43 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands -- a total of 45 jurisdictions. And while hitting the jackpot is a true feat, the odds of winning any prize are much better at about 1 in 15.
