NBC ‘Coach’ Revival Series Cancelled
Fans of the long canceled ABC TV series "Coach" were thrilled to hear that the series was being revived for the NBC network just a few months ago. The production had already started, and several stars were attached to return, including the original title character played by Craig T. Nelson.
But things have not gone according to plan, and the network, which ordered a straight-to-series 13-episode season for the revival show, have now went back on their decision and canceled the project, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Although it was a bit unusual for the show to be revived on a network that did not air the original show, hopes were high, and it had promise in moving forward. (For instance, the reboot of "Dallas" has had a successful run on cable network TNT.)
Production for the show had already started, and the premise was that the son of original Coach (Hayden Fox portrayed by Nelson) has taken on the duties of forming an Ivy League football program in Pennsylvania. He had his struggles ahead of him, and it would take his father coming out of retirement and joining him as an assistant coach to help him pioneer the team from scratch.
The show was being spearheaded by the original creator, Barry Kemp. He was attached to write it and was to be executive producer for the series for NBC.
Although there has been no word yet, it could still be possible that the original network ABC could swoop back in and save the day, possibly giving the show new life and allowing it to come home where it hasn't been since its nine-season run that ended in 1997 with nearly 200 episodes under its belt.
As of this moment in time, the project is officially dead in the water.
