The creator for "The Bastard Executioner," Kurt Sutter, acknowledged recently his new show will be seen by audiences and critics alike as similar to "Game of Thrones."

Furthermore, Sutter said he was okay with that, and he can even see the parallels himself, according to Rolling Stone. But what sets his show apart from "Thrones" is the latter is limited by the scope of the novels, but "Executioner" is not. He did, however, acknowledge he is limited by the scope of history as we know it.

The scope of history in this particular era was very broad and brutal, so the limits themselves will not be hard to overcome given that the 14th century was an era of utter brutality and dominated by the epitome of human deprivation, or as it is best known, the Dark Ages.

Although you will not see any dragons flying around in "Executioner," you will see the visceral intensity that Sutter so famously portrays in his shows. After creating "Sons of Anarchy," critics of the show hailed it as "Hamlet in black leather." With that in mind, Sutter is sure to portray the era as true to life as he can with scenes of utter depravity and a total disregard for human life.

Paris Barclay, who serves as an executive producer for the series and the director for the pilot episode, gave Rolling Stone a few details about what he and Sutter wanted for the show.

"We knew we didn't want it to be precious," Barclay said.

"We wanted a Kurt Sutter experience, which means grittier, more immersive. We wanted the costumes to drag in the dirt. We wanted the fighting to seem un-choreographed, as much as possible. We wanted it to be more real, and more on-the-ground than we're used to seeing on television. And all of that ended up being much more difficult to execute, if you will, than it was to talk about."
