Samsung Gear S2 Price, Review: New Smartwatch Available in 3 Versions, Longer Battery Life
Samsung is back with a new smartwatch and it is a direct competitor with the Apple Watch. The Samsung Gear S2 will be available in three different versions and Samsung claims the battery can last up to three days.
The unique feature of the Gear S2 is the rotating bezel, CNET reports. This allows for users to control different features on the smartwatch. This is different than the digital crown on the Apple Watch and is easier to control too. The rotating dial is similar to the dial on a diver's watch.
The most important thing to note about the Gear S2 is the three versions of the watch. The first version will be simply called the Gear S2. This model will have a modern band. The next version is called the Gear S2 Classic. The Classic has a black body and a leather band. The third version of the Gear S2 is the 3G-enabled smartwatch. With 3G, this version does not need to be connected to a nearby smartphone, and it will be able to make calls right from the watch.
The Gear S2 Classic is the lightest of the three watches and all three watches are waterproof up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.
The Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic both look and feel like traditional wristwatches. The watches are not overly chunky like other smartwatches have been in the past.
The 1.2-inch screens on the Gear S2 watches are clear with a 360x360 pixel display.
Inside the watches, a 1 GHz processor is found, along with 4 GB of storage. Users will also be able to use the storage space for audio files.
With sensors for speed, distance, and height, the Gear S2 smartwatches will work well as fitness trackers. Users will be able to access apps to log their workouts and steps taken each day.
Probably the best feature of the Gear S2 is going to be its battery life. Samsung is promising 2-3 days of battery life before it will need a charge, Tech Snap reports. The Apple Watch needs to be charged everyday.
The Samsung Gear S2 will likely go on sale in October with pricing unknown. The Gear S2 will likely be the entry-level model for at least $200 and the 3G model will likely cost at least $400.
