Saturday’s chance to make big money playing Powerball is here. The grand prize is currently at $133 million, with a cash value of $84.9 million.

Last Wednesday’s winning numbers were 17, 22, 30, 46, 56 and 16. There were 456,864 regular winners and $6,184,509 in non-jackpot money was won.

There are actually nine ways to play Powerball. Though the odds will likely change in October, currently there is a 1 in 175,223,510.00 chance in winning the grand prize and a 1 in 5,153,632.65 chance in winning $1,000,000.

So the odds of winning are slim, but people do win. The main thing a Powerball player has to do, outside of checking the numbers, is hold on to the ticket.

As reported by AL.com, a man named Robert Pitchford, form Birmingham, Alabama recently won a $1 million Powerball prize in Georgia.

Claiming his prize on Aug 24., the 65-year-old Pitchford expressed his surprise over the win, saying, "I didn't even know that I'd hit." Explaining his lotto strategy as a kind of routine, he said, "I purchased a ticket for multiple draws" and "I always come to the state line to check my ticket."

With his new found wealth Pitchford plans to purchase a convertible, take a cruise and then retire from his job as a tool and die maker.

If Pitchford is taking his time about getting to his travel plans and ditching his job, then he might be on the right track.

According to a Forbes article called “10 Things To Do When You Win the Lotto,” a lottery winner should make every effort not to do anything too sudden with their new money. “For the first six months after you win the lottery, don’t do anything drastic, like quitting your job, buying a home in Europe, trading up for a luxury car or building a collection of Birkin handbags,” writes Deborah L. Jacobs.

“Meanwhile, set aside a fixed amount for splurges—it’s only natural to want to celebrate your windfall.” she adds, with an understanding of human nature.
