Real Madrid Rumors: Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo to Leave for EPL Clubs?
Real Madrid did not make any major moves during the 2015 summer transfer window with only young midfielder Mateo Kovacic from Inter Milan and full back Danilo from Porto as additions to the senior team, according to Soccer Base. Legend Iker Casillas left for Porto and failed to sign Manchester United and Spanish international goalkeeper David De Gea.
Madrid and United apparently agreed to a transfer fee of £29 million that also involved Madrid keeper Keylor Navas going to United for De Gea. The deal reportedly collapsed due to paperwork not being submitted before the end of the transfer window in Spain, as reported by BBC. The two sides have both claimed that they are not responsible for the deal falling through.
However, according to The Mirror, the Red Devils are not done dealing with the Spanish side as they plan on courting Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale. Ronaldo is a former United player while Bale played for the Tottenham Hotspur before transferring to Madrid in 2013 for a record fee.
The current blame game does not deter United in pursuing Bale as he is their number one priority. The report also said that there is a speculation that Cristiano Ronaldo could make a return to Old Trafford if his relationship with new Real Madrid coach Rafa Benitez becomes bad.
Another possible target for United is Madrid and French striker Karim Benzema, as reported by FOX Sports. Benzema was also heavily pursued by Arsenal this past transfer window, but the 27-year-old striker insisted, in an interview with Telefoot, that his heart was in Madrid and that he never wanted to move away from the Bernabéu.
"There was nothing in the talk of a transfer away from Madrid. I'm happy at my current club. It's the best in the world. I'll continue to work here and be happy where I am," Benzema said to Telefoot, as quoted by FOX Sports.
"It's been like four months since I played properly. I've played a little bit for Madrid, but that's all. I'm working little by little to be back in shape," he added.
The same report also noted that United inquired about Madrid defenders Raphael Varane and Sergio Ramos. Manchester United were busy this past summer as they signed high-priced players including Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and Anthony Martial.
According to Sky Sports, United spent a total of £108.1 million for all their summer signings.
