Donald Trump's fleet of private aircraft is turning out to be a key advantage for the GOP presidential front-runner as his jets and helicopters not only reliably gets the billionaire to his campaign events but also serve to promote his brand, the Wall Street Journal reported.

The real-estate tycoon owns a Boeing 757, a Cessna Citation X and three Sikorsky helicopters, and his planes logged at least 71 campaign-related flights between April 1 and Aug. 31, based on Federal Aviation Administration flight records available on flight-tracking websites.

"It's a massive, unbelievable competitive advantage," said Dave Carney, a GOP campaign consultant who was chief strategist for Rick Perry's 2012 presidential primary campaign. "Having access to a private jet is the single most important asset to any national political campaign. It's hugely expensive, but it gives you the ability to set your own schedule."

The largest of his jets -- a Boeing 757-200 -- would be able to carry as many as 228 passengers in an all-economy class commercial configuration, CNN detailed. Trump's version holds only 43 travelers, who enjoy such luxuries as a dining room, big screen TVs, a master and a guest bedroom and even a shower.

"It's like living in a beautiful home," Trump said. "The advantage is that I'm able to fly nicely, quickly and on time."

John Dunkin, Trump's pilot, meanwhile, told the Smithsonian Channel's Mighty Planes that the candidate's specially outfitted 757, which has a top speed of 609 miles per hour and can fly up to 4,400 miles without stopping, was "kind of like the Ferrari" in its category of planes.

"Everything that they did on it is very very spectacular." Dunkin said. "It's very fast airplane for a large airplane. It's extremely comfortable. It takes turbulence very well."

And the Trump-branded planes make for a nice campaign accessory, as evidenced by recent flyovers near a campaign rally at an Alabama stadium and the free helicopter rides Trump offered children at the Iowa State Fair.
