The Netflix film "Beasts Of No Nation," which will also have a limited debut in theaters at the same time its released on the streaming platform, has released a trailer. The movie features Idris Elba in a leading role. According to Deadline, it features raw performances based on a book by Nigerian author Uzodinma Iweala.

The film chronicles the plight of a young African boy, who has been ripped apart from his family and forced to fight in a civil war that rages in an unnamed African country. The film seeks to shed light on the real life struggles that young child soldiers are forced to endure in many countries on the war-torn continent.

Elba stars in the film as a commandant, who recruits these young boys to fight on his behalf and trains them to be mercenaries in his army. The young boy, who is played by newcomer Abraham Attah, is named Agu in the film. The movie ultimately follows Agu's own struggle and shows how hardship transforms him as a young man. It shows how the ruthless war commandant takes the boy on as his own son and trains him to be just as ruthless a killer as he is.

The film has been directed by "True Detective" director Cary Fukunaga, who is best known for directing all episodes for season 1 of that series. He has also won several awards for that season as well.

Fukunaga spoke about the struggle these child soldiers have to endure and how the world is powerless to help them.

"Child soldiers is a tough one because there's no one policy that can just end it," Fukunaga said. "Movies do have the power to create awareness and positive change... But this kind of warfare is its own sort of industry... As soon as there is a rebellion, the government doesn't have control of laws."

The film will be available on Oct. 16 on Netflix and in select theaters. See the trailer below.
