Powerball Numbers and Results Sept. 9, 2015: Watch Live Stream of Drawing for $149 Million Jackpot
Wednesday’s chance to make big money playing Powerball is here. The grand prize is currently at $149 million, with a cash value of $94.8 million.
Last Saturday’s winning numbers were: 10,16,18, 29, and 45; and the Powerball was 19. There were 551,295 regular winners and $8,618,319 in non-jackpot money was won.
There are actually nine ways to play Powerball. Although the odds will likely change in October, currently there is a 1 in 175,223,510.00 chance in winning the grand prize and a 1 in 5,153,632.65 chance in winning $1,000,000.
So the odds of winning are slim, but people do win. The main thing a Powerball player has to do, outside of checking the numbers, is hold on to the ticket.
Then, if you are lucky enough to win, you might find yourself becoming vigilant.
Roy Cockrum, a Tennessee Powerball jackpot winner, is coming forward to warn others about a scam involving his name. Local NBC affiliate WSMV News revealed that last year the station received dozens of emails from people claiming to have been targeted by scams using Roy Cockrum’s name.
Last year, Cockrum, a former monk, won $259.8 million.
Now an imposter on Instagram is claiming to be him, using an enticing racket that says, “My goal is to give $1,000 to the first 50,000 followers.” And this conman is not alone. There are at least 10 fake Instagram accounts pretending to be the former monk.
The opportunity for scammers to prey on unsuspecting people in Cockrum’s name likely comes from the fact that Cockrum has made a very public effort to give money away to the arts.
Through the Roy Cockrum Foundation, he has already given much of his winnings away to fund nonprofit theaters. Speaking to the Chicago Tribune about his generous plans back in March, Cockrum said, "I had made a mental note throughout my life of all the people who were going to get my support should I ever have a pile of cash."
As quoted on WSMV News, he said, “It’s going to be my job to work very hard that every single penny of this prize is a blessing to whoever it touches.”
