Kim Davis Released: 'Eye of the Tiger' Band Survivor Frontman Outraged Over Song Use at Rally [Watch]
When embattled Kentucky county clerk Kim Davis was freed from jail yesterday. following her incarceration that stemmed from her refusal to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee staged a rally on her behalf. At this rally, the legendary arena rock song "Eye Of The Tiger" was played to celebrate her release.
But according to NBC News, the band responsible for the hit song back in 1982, Survivor, was less than pleased to have their masterful work played out on such a controversial stage that many have likened to hateful actions based on Christian doctrine.
On his Facebook page, singer and frontman for the band, Frankie Sullivan, expressed his outrage for the incident. He even hinted at a possible legal proceeding.
"NO! We did not grant Kim Davis any rights to use 'My Tune -The Eye Of The Tiger.' I would not grant her the rights to use Charmin! C'mom Mike, you are not The Donald but you can do better than that - See Ya really SoooooooonnnnnnN!!!!!!... FS," Sullivan wrote on the social media page.
Davis is an elected Clerk in Rowan County, Kentucky. Since the Supreme Court ruling in June paved the way for all same-sex couples to marry, she has defied the order and refused to issue the marriage licenses. In the beginning, it was only to same-sex couples. She then stopped issuing marriage licenses to all people.
A federal judge ordered her to issue the licenses and still defied the order, refusing to do so. She was then held in contempt of a court order and sent to jail, which led to her incarceration for several days while her deputies started issuing the marriage licenses. The judge then ordered her release, following the actions of her deputies.
There has been no word yet whether or not the band intends to pursue legal action against Davis and Huckabee for the use of their song, nor whether they will seek in injunction to halt all future uses of the song.
