Netflix Salaries: Streaming TV Stars Paid as Much, or More, Than Network Stars
Netflix has already turned out a whole host of hit TV shows from the original programming library, and now audiences worldwide have found out just how much the stars for their hit shows make.
According to Fox News, the streaming video buffet platform is not just some short order TV network or film producer but rather a major player in the industry that has been able to attract all kinds of A-List Hollywood talent to their shows.
As seen on "House of Cards," the extremely provocative talents of Kevin Spacey, Robin Wright and many others have been an incredible draw, and they have not disappointed. Not to mention the genuinely great storytelling, these actors have been able to deliver such whopping scenes to subscribers of the platform that the shows have become instant hits.
Fans have always thought of shows like these from emerging platforms as low budget, low paying startups. But they would be mistaken.
Netflix currently has the largest share of the streaming market, with 62.3 million subscribers to their service. That basically means that 62.3 million people pay at least $7.99 per month for access to their online content. In return they get a streaming video buffet with a few perks to go along with it such as account sharing and HD video.
So at minimum, Netflix rakes in $504 million a month. That minimum is because the company also has a DVD by mail service, which costs more but has a more expansive library. For those subscribers who use it, they pay double, even triple the costs of the standard streaming service.
So with that in mind, they can afford to pay their A-List actors hefty checks.
According to TV Guide, Spacey was paid $500,000 per episode for his performances on "House of Cards." In comparison, one of network television's biggest shows NCIS paid there top star Mark Harmon $525,000 per episode.
So with Harmon at the high end of the stick in terms of network TV salaries, not including the $1 million dollar pay days for "The Big Bang Theory" stars, you can just imagine how much more Spacey makes per episode than hundreds of other network TV stars.
