It was another tennis master class from the maestro Roger Federer. The 17-time Grand Slam champion defeated Richard Gasquet in straight sets, securing a semi-finals spot in the U.S. Open and keeping the goal of an 18th Slam alive.

Even at 34, old and way past the prime of an average tennis player, Federer wowed against a formidable opponent and dispatched of Gasquet in 6-3, 6-3, 6-1. The match was as lopsided as the scoreboard with the world's No. 2 hitting 50 winners versus the No. 12's eight winners.

With the victory, Federer has set up an all-Swiss semifinals against his countryman Stan Wawrinka, No. 5 seed. Before Federer and Gasquet's match, Wawrinka delivered an emphatic win of his own against Kevin Anderson 6-4, 6-4, 6-0.

It's bound to be a tougher obstacle for both when they face each other on the court. According to New York Times, Federer won 16 out of their 19 matches overall. However, the most recent victory belonged to Wawrinka, who defeated his countryman in straight sets during the quarterfinals of the French Open this year on his way to winning his second Grand Slam.

Despite the rivalry, the two are long-time friends and are quick to grant kind words about each other.

"Stan played a wonderful match against me in Paris, and I was very happy for him that he went on to win the tournament," Federer said, according to TSN. "He deserved it. He's been such a great player throughout his career."

He added, "Couldn't be happier to play him here, to be quite honest. Two Swiss in the semis of the U.S. Open - it's very cool for both of us."

As per New York Times, Wawrinka displayed the camaraderie between the pair, saying, "We always laugh together. Friday we're going to laugh together in the locker room before the match."

"He's the best player ever," he said in a report by ESPN. "He's playing so good, especially since the summer. I know people love him here, so hopefully I will steal some support. Hopefully I can still play more amazing tennis in the next one."

It's been a smooth ride so far for both in Flushing Meadows, especially for Federer, who has yet to drop a set in his bid for another Slam. He has only spent eight hours and 16 minutes in five matches while Wawrinka has played over 11 hours and lost only a single set.

Federer and Wawrinka will face each other in the semifinals match on Friday, Sept. 11.
