Ellen DeGeneres openly admits that she now considers the season she spent as a judge on "American Idol" "one of the worst decisions I've ever made."

Appearing on an episode of Sirius XM's the "Howard Stern Show," Time magazine reports the 57-year-old talk show host added she simply couldn't bring herself to be the one to squash the dreams of so many others.

"As a fan of the shows, it doesn't matter that I sing or I know anything about pitch. ... I'm like everybody else at home, so I thought I'm gonna represent those people at home that have opinions," she said. "But then I just thought, like Howard says, I can't break this person's heart. Let somebody else do that."

DeGeneres also opened up to Stern over the somewhat mixed-emotions she's now feeling stemming from her recent, season-opening interview with Caitlyn Jenner, where the reality TV star talked about her publicly expressed reservations on the issue of same-sex marriage while herself being a transgender person.

"I said, 'You're wanting people to understand and accept you -- this is like, really confusing to people. And you still have a judgement about gay people and marriage,'" she told Stern. "She goes, 'Well, if the word marriage is that important.' It is. That's the word."

The 65-year-old Jenner later added during the show that she had "really changed my thinking here to, 'I don't ever want to stand in front of anybody's happiness.'"

As for her "Idol" experience, DeGeneres isn't the only former judge to vow never to agree to an encore performance.

When Mariah Carey was recently asked if she would ever return, she replied, "Hell no! Absolutely not. That was the worst experience of my life."
