Samsung Galaxy S5 Release Date, Specs, Features & Rumors: Only Some Phones to Have Intel LTE Chips [PICS]
Today, Samsung will reveal its highly anticipated new smartphone, but information about the phone's specs and appearance may have already leaked to the Internet.
In just moments, Samsung will reveal the Galaxy S5 at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Despite the fact that the phone has yet to debut, reports about the phone's LTE chip have already been shared.
"The Santa Clara, Calif., chipmaker is close to signing a deal with Samsung to provide LTE chips for one of the variations of the Galaxy S5 that will hit the market in the coming months," CNET reports, citing an Intel spokesman as its source.
According to Hermann Eul, head of Intel's mobile chip business, the Intel LTE chip will not be featured in the upcoming Galaxy S5, but rather a variation of the phone that Samsung is not scheduled to announce for another few months.
Meanwhile, pictures of the Galaxy S5 may have already been leaked. This week, a Twitter user named @SaudiAndroid uploaded photos claiming to be the Korean electronics brand new flagship phone to his Twitter page. Last month, Lee Young Hee, executive vice president of Samsung's mobile department, said that the Galaxy S5 will stand out from its predecessors with a new design, something that Samsung failed to implement with the Galaxy S4. @SaudiAndroid's photos agree with this, as the phone in the pictures show a bigger screen and more rectangular shape. Lee said that consumers were disappointed by the lack of change between the Galaxy S4 and the Galaxy S3, but this time things will be different.
According to Lee, the Galaxy S5 will also come with a new Galaxy Gear smartwatch and one other unnamed wearable product.
"We've been announcing our first flagship model in the first half of each year, around March and April, and we are still targeting for release around that time," he said. "When we release our S5 device, you can also expect a Gear successor with more advanced functions, and the bulky design will also be improved."
