‘Underworld: Next Generation’ Casts New Lead Villain
The back-and-forth villains in the "Underworld" franchise have been a mainstay for the series, which has always featured Kate Beckinsale in the lead role of Selene, except for the third film in the series which was a prequel.
According to Deadline, the new villain for the franchise will be played by "Damien's" Bradley James. There is no word yet as to what role he will be playing as the new villain in the series, but in the last film, the humans and the Lycans were portrayed as the main villains.
These roles have gone back and forth in all the films. In the first film, although both vampires and werewolves were killers, it was the vampire clan that were portrayed the most as villains with their constant betrayals and utter disrespect for any creatures other than themselves.
In the second film, it was Selene who had to fight both factions of monsters as she battled to uncover the truth about their origins. In the third film, it was about the rise of werewolves out of slavery and the fourth film, the werewolves had infiltrated the human elements that were hell-bent on destroying all monsters.
Following the events of the fourth film, Selene is now in a position where she will once again battle her own kind as well as the werewolves.
"Outlander" star Tobias Menzies has been cast in a leading villainous role as a werewolf leader named Marius. His performance on the hit Starz show makes him the most obvious choice for the crazed exploits of a powerful nemesis opposite Kate Beckinsale.
Deadline also reports that actress Clementine Nicholson has been cast as a possible ally to Selene. She will portray the role of Lena, who is a powerful warrior and the leader of the Nordic Coven.
Production on the film will begin in October in Prague. There has been no word yet when the film will be released.
