2015 US Open Semifinals: Roger Federer vs Stan Wawrinka, Novak Djokovic vs Marin Cilic Preview, Where To Watch
Roger Federer, Stan Wawrinka, Novak Djokovic and Marin Cilic will take the spotlight on Friday, when they compete in the semifinals of the 2015 US Open Tennis at Flushing Meadows.
Novak Djokovic and Marin Cilic will kick off the men's semis festivities at Arthur Ashe Stadium after the pair of women's semis matches, which were postponed on Thursday.
Djokovic, the top-seeded player in the men's draw, did not surrender a set in his first three matches. He was challenged in the fourth round and quarterfinal, but the Serb proved why he is the favorite to win the title this year.
Against Cilic, the defending US Open champion, Djokovic will be a heavy favorite again based on his recent performances. The 28-year-old has also dominated his head-to-head matchup with Cilic, winning in all 13 matches, including their showdown in Monte Carlo and at Wimbledon earlier this year, a report on the official US Open website noted.
Djokovic knows Cilic is capable of pulling off an upset, but he pointed out that he knows what to expect on Friday, including his semis opponent's big serves.
"I know him very well," Djokovic said of Cilic. "I have played with him many, many times. We are great friends. Great guy. I know what to do, and I'm opening I can execute the game plan obviously and play my best."
On the other hand, Swiss tennis superstars Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka will collide in the other semis match of the day at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Federer is seeking his 18th Grand Slam title and his first since the 2012 Wimbledon. Based on the result of his first five matches, the second-seeded Swiss is on pace to move a step closer to ending his drought.
Federer, who booked a spot in the final four via a straight-set win against 12th seed Richard Gasquet of France, also holds a 16-3 advantage over his Davis Cup teammate. However, Federer lost to Wawrinka at Roland Garros earlier this year, and he is hoping for a better performance against the fifth seed on Friday night.
"Looking forward to playing him, because he definitely is a big test and a big challenge for me," Federer said of Wawrinka. "He beat me in straight at the French, so I hope I can do better this time."
