Lucero, one of the most popular actresses and singers in Latin American music, will be honored for her career and contributions to Hispanic television during the 13th Annual Hispanic Television Summit.

According to People en Español, the 46-year-old Mexican star will be awarded the honor when the ceremony is held on Oct. 22 at the Park Central Hotel in New York City.

The singer began her career in the 1980s and broke out with her starring role in "Chispita." The actress, who has won more TVyNovelas awards than any other actress, went on to star in "Cuando llega el amor"; the super popular "Lazos de Amor," where she played all three main characters; "Mi Destino Eres Tú"; "Soy Tu Dueña"; and several other telenovelas and films.

She won an Emmy for her performance in "Alborada," and in 2013, People en Español named Lucero the "Queen of the Telenovelas" for their "50 Most Beautiful" issue. Besides acting, Lucero has also released several albums throughout her career and has sold more than 22 million records worldwide.

"Lucero is a true icon who has been successful in multiple areas of entertainment, crossed cultural boundaries and won legions of fans," said Louis Hillelson, VP and group publisher of Broadcasting & Cable Multichannel News. "Lucero continues to be one of the most prolific stars in the history of the telenovela in an era when the genre is gaining popularity with English speaking audiences."

Lucero, who joined Telemundo in 2015 to host the reality series "Yo Soy El Artista," is the first telenovela star to be honored with the award, reported Broadcasting & Cable.

The singer recently performed at the 2015 Premios Tu Mundo award show, where she honored the late Joan Sebastian by singing a version of his song "Llorar." She also presented "Sábado Gigante" host Don Francisco with the "Giant of Giants" award for his contributions to television.

"Thank you for many years of devotion, of entertainment, of hope and of unforgettable moments," said the Mexican superstar.
