Drake & Future Mixtape Rumors: Surpise Appearance at Future's Concert Fuels Talk of Collaboration
Following rumors that rap superstars Drake and Future are collaborating on a mixtape together, Future was seen bringing the Toronto-based rapper on stage as a special guest during his performance at Ryerson University.
The two performed their joint single "Where Ya At" off of Future's recent album, "Dirty Sprite 2." Drake also went on to perform some of his most recent joints, such as "Energy" and "Know Yourself," based off his mixtape "If You're Reading This It's Too Late."
The rumor has seemed to stem from an alleged Instagram screencap that displayed a record cover that featured both rappers' names. The cover art also featured an artistic rendering of a purple owl, which incorporates both artist's signature logos.
The image initially appeared on the OVO signee OB O'Brien's Instagram feed where it has since been deleted.
If the rumors turn out to be true, the artists plan to release the mixtape on an unexpected date. This marketing technique has gained a lot of popularity, ever since the success of Beyoncé's most recent album. The days of certain release dates are beginning to fade from the hip-hop genre.
Based on the current popularity of both Future and Drake as solo artists, the collective response to their collaboration is expected to be quite positive either way.
Apart from this, Drake's own personal project "Views from the 6" is expected to drop in the next couple weeks, per a mysterious release date that has popped up on his OVO website. It reads "September 24" without explanation, and fans have linked this date with his previous release date for "Nothing Was The Same" in 2013.
