Golden Boy Promotions Head Oscar De La Hoya is excited for a new boxing era headlined by Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, Miguel Cotto, Gennady Golovkin and David Lemieux as soon as the undefeated boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. confirms his retirement.

Mayweather reigned over Andre Berto via a unanimous decision on Saturday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to mark his 49th and farewell fight still blemish-free, tying with Rocky Marciano's 49-0 record, Boxing Scene reported.

Yet, the event was something the Hall of Fame boxer, who reportedly once lost against "The Money" in 2007 via a split decision did not see, as he actually intended not watching it at all.

"I'm going to miss Floyd's action packed fights with prime fighters. I'm sure glad I decided for Disney movies with my kids tonight. Now that the worst boxing era is over let's look forward to the next 10 years [with] Canelo, Cotto, Lemieux, Golovkin," De La Hoya said on online posts, noted the site.

"Golden Boy" was obviously throwing a sarcastic remark on Mayweather by stating the words "action packed fights" as he openly criticized the May 2 Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao fight on FightHype.com.

"Pacquiao-Mayweather didn't live up to expectations whatsoever. You had 2.5 million people, new customers, disappointed. They wanted to see a fight, and now these are never going to want to see boxing again because of that fight," De La Hoya said.

However, the promoter encouraged fans to tune in the Cotto-Canelo bout in November at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, as these two fighters will bring back action on the ring.

"So that's what I have a problem with. Now I'm speaking as a promoter. I love fights. I love action. I want to see an action fight. That's what I'm going to see on November 21st [with Canelo vs. Cotto]."

Aside from the Puerto Rico vs. Mexico rivalry promised by the World Boxing Council middleweight title clash, fans will get to see the unification battle between "Triple G" and Lemieux on Oct. 17 at the Madison Square Garden in New York. The winner between the World Boxing Association and International Boxing Organization king "GGG" and International Boxing Federation champ Lemieux will don three belts and will fight the winner of the Cotto-Canelo showdown next, as informed by a separate Boxing Scene article.

Thus, these four names will be boxing's most talked about fighters in the years to come as most probably, several fights or even rematches may be formed among them, especially with the prestigious crowns at stake.

De La Hoya, who promotes the rising Mexican warrior "Canelo" and the Canadian knockout artist Lemieux, couldn't be any happier with this new era.
