Puerto Rican superstar Jennifer Lopez, also known as "Jenny from the block" will be soon be investigating the block -- in a cop drama called Shades of Blue on NBC.

In 1995, we've seen her play a New York City transit officer in the comedy-thriller, Money Train, co-starring Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes, and in 2001, she played a cop in the romantic drama, Angel Eyes, co-starring Jim Caviezel. Lopez was convincing in her cop roles and her New York roots gave her the edge needed to bring her characters to life, therefore, Lopez has experience on her side to draw from for Shades of Blue.

Just when it seemed like JLo had done it all -- from her dancing days to "In Living Color" to her acting gigs, singing career, to her clothing line, fragrances, product endorsements and commercials, it turns out there are more things to check off her list.

The American Idol judge has a lot on her plate, but the 44-year-old multi-faceted mega-star is still hungry and will be marking a new chapter in her acting career.

According to Fox News Latino and several other sources, "in the 13-episode show, Lopez will play the lead character, Harlee McCord, a single mother and detective who is recruited to work undercover with the FBI's anti-corruption task force."

"McCord will be part of a close-knit unit known for its conviction record, but she becomes compromised by her colleagues -- all of whom pitch in to help raise her daughter. She finds herself faced with the dilemma of working against her co-workers to redeem herself."

Not only is Lopez starring in the lead role, but she is an executive producer on the show, alongside Adi Hasak and American Idol colleague Ryan Seacrest.

"The script is so powerful and ambitious, we can't wait to see Jennifer take on this remarkable role," Seacrest said in a statement. "Bob Greenblatt and Jen Salke's enthusiasm and support has been incredible, and we look forward to working with everyone at NBC."

More recently, Lopez guest-starred on How I Met Your Mother on CBS. She also starred in scripted TV back in 1994 on the series Second Chances.

The production for Shades of Blue is reportedly expected to begin in 2015 for broadcast during the 2015-16 season.
