Singer Selena Gomez Discusses Body-Shaming for Weight Gain and 'Revival' Cover Artwork
When Selena Gomez does anything, she's always ready for criticism. So it was no surprise that when she stripped for her upcoming album's artwork she received a lot of hate and body-shaming comments.
According to MTV, during a live interview on "The Cruz Show," Gomez not only discussed her new music, but also how she used working on her new album, "Revival," to deal with her body critics.
"The past year everyone had a say in my life," said the singer. "There's a song on my record called 'Kill Them With Kindness' so I've always done that. I always ignore and ignore then it just got out of hand. So I went to the new label and I said 'I have to say something and I need to say what I want to say and you guys have to help me figure out how I'm going to do that.'"
The 23-year-old, who received constant criticism over the summer whenever she was photographed in a bathing suit, reported Teen.com, explained how the backlash over her body hurt her.
"You have to understand that I dealt with a lot of body shaming this year and I've never experienced that before," sad Gomez. "I don't care about that stuff, but I did start gaining weight, and I didn't really mind it ... Man, that hurt. That was really hurtful. Because I've experienced people who have tried to control that kind of stuff before, and I didn't care. This is my time. I want to do it the way I want to do it."
Gomez also reiterated that, while she is topless in the cover artwork for "Revival," this is not her first time posing topless, which she did for V magazine in February.

Regardless of what people say, the star is not about to let others dictate what she does and doesn't do.
"It's not even about my weight," continued Gomez. "It's just that I'm not going to give a f*ck what people say. I'm not going to let them get to me."
The singer was also asked to describe the paparazzi in three words. She chose the words "invasive, violating and disgusting," and explained that they need to learn to respect her space.
Gomez stated that, while she gets people's obsession with celebrities, it doesn't make stalking or intruding into her personal life okay.
