A new batch of older Sony Xperia models can now get their much-deserved software makeovers.

According to Xperia Blog, Sony Mobile recently started seeding the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS update for the Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra and Xperia Z1 Compact.

The patch, which has the build code 14.6.A.0.368, carries a full fix for the "Stagefright" vulnerability. However, owners of the said models have to be patient since the patch has just started to pick up its stride in some regions. Its OTA availability will only become wider with each passing day.

The firmware update will feature the following changes:

  • Improved toggles for volume and silent mode
  • More control over notification animations, which will now have a simplified and enhanced design
  • LinkedIn integration to Calendar and Contacts
  • Superior Auto Mode will now improve camera focus, speed and accuracy
  • Many new features for Xperia in Business, enhancing enterprise support
  • Device integration with Sony's SmartWatch 3, which can now be used as a remote shutter button
  • Instant calendar events; create and share smart events directly from any email
  • Easier access to events via Calendar agenda in Email
  • Enhanced Xperia themes
  • New icons on the Settings menu
  • New Wi-Fi and Bluetooth options in the Notification menu

Owners of the aforementioned devices will undoubtedly be relieved with the news. It can be recalled that the said models weren't included in the initial list of prior Xperia smartphones receiving the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update.

An Xperia Blog report from a week ago previously mentioned that software update had started seeding for the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z.

In other Xperia news, Sony has cut off the prices of its recently launched Xperia Z5 offerings.

The Xperia Z5 Compact will now retail for £429 ($657), the Z5 for £550 ($842) and Z5 Premium for £630 ($965), per Sony's e-shop.

However, these prices wouldn't be a problem for James Bond as it has been reported that he will be sporting the Xperia Z5 in his upcoming movie.

According to Digital Trends, James Bond will utilize the Xperia Z5 in some capacity in "Spectre," which will be out this Oct. 26.

Sony has always synched its film studio with its mobile depart via product placements on recent Bond movies. However, this has never sat well with Bond actor Daniel Craig. He once deemed the Xperia Z3+ not "cool enough" for Bond, even though he was paid $5 million to use the device onscreen.

Although the deal between Sony and Eon Productions hasn't been publicized yet, it's safe to say that Craig has been offered an even more lucrative amount to promote the Xperia Z5.
