The highly successful 2012 horror film "The Cabin in the Woods" may end up getting that sequel fans have been dreaming of. Director Drew Goddard spoke with Cinema Blend at this year's Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), and he had a few good things to say about the possible follow up film.

"They want to make one. I think Joss [Whedon]... we talked about it. I think we just don't want to, we don't want to f*ck it up," Goddard told CB.

The 2012 film was about five people, three men and two girls, who traveled to a remote cabin in the woods for what appeared to be just a simple weekend away. They seemed to be there to have a good time, and for some good old fashioned underage drinking and general debauchery.

But things went from good to bad for them, when they encountered ghoulish hillbilly monsters that started picking them off. Then, to top that off, they find out they are part of a bigger government conspiracy to sacrifice them to some sort of ancient evil. The film morphed into an all-encompassing horror film, which featured monsters of all types, including vampires, werewolves, swamp monsters, fish monsters, etc.

Although the film ended not quite happily, there was obviously more to the story that could be told.

"Not everything needs to be a franchise. You know, like we only want to make it if we're excited about it," Goddard said. "I don't care, I don't think we need to do it. It's more about, is there something that excites us? You know, that universe is pretty exciting, so we talk about it from time to time. I don't know."

He spoke as if he and Whedon, the film's writer, would only do the movie if they come up with a fantastic idea. They are not in a rush to put a sequel out, but they will obviously entertain the idea of a sequel should a good one come up.
