NHL 16 Gameplay, Features: EASHL Mode Returns; Be A Pro, Be A GM Modes Improved
With improved modes and previously removed modes brought back, NHL 16 looks like it will restore hockey fans' faith in EA Sports.
NHL 16 is fixing many of the things that NHL 15 broke. NHL 15 was not a winner. Game Spot reports the game took away the popular online mode called EA Sports Hockey League (EASHL) as well as offline shootouts. The Be a Pro and Be a GM modes also suffered in NHL 15. Thankfully, NHL 16 brought back the missing modes and vastly improved others.
Hockey gamers will appreciate the improved gameplay of NHL 16 with more control on offense and defense. Even goal-tending has been re-hauled with new controls to make stopping the puck with the last line of defense even more fun.
First-time players to a hockey video game will appreciate the on-ice trainer which teaches all aspects of the game, including passing, shooting, face-offs, defense and more. These training sessions will be very valuable in the Be a Pro mode.
In Be a Pro, players will bring their created character up from the minors all the way to the pros. Coaches will help players get better and become a team player.
In Be a GM, players will be able to control all aspects of a hockey team, including managing a team's roster and keeping teammates happy.
Offline shootouts return in NHL 16 which means quick games against friends pitting a goalie and a goal scorer in a one-on-one breakaway situation.
The popular EASHL mode returns to NHL 16. This mode allows players to take their created character and either join an online club or drop into a pick-up game. The mixture of created characters all competing online is a unique way to play NHL 16.
NHL 16 was released Tuesday for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Video games website IGN gave the game a 7.8 (out of 10) rating, blaming repetitive announcers and unreliable online connections.
