PS4 Price Drop Announced in Japan, Will Other Regions Follow Suit?
The ongoing Tokyo Game Show is something most gamers look forward to because of its vast inclusion of what's latest in the gaming world including consoles, software updates and new games.
According to Attack of the Fan Boy, one of the many things to look forward to during the event will be PlayStation 4's apparent announcement on a reduced price for the gaming console in Japan.
Announced during their conference at the TGS, Sony confirmed that PlayStation 4 will drop its price from 34,980 Yen from its original price which is was 39,980 Yen. A price drop of roughly around $42 was given on the PlayStation 4 console.
Its U.S. counterpart still sells the PlayStation 4 for $399, something that has not changed since its debut, but with Japan closing in on a hefty price drop, other regions can't help but expect the same thing.
If anything else, and if Sony feels like stealing Xbox's moment, they could perhaps extend the price drop to other regions. For now, Japan is the only country seen to take full advantage of the price.
Sony however, continues to give full advantage to its customers by providing free downloadable content to their bundle. Sony has also introduced the free download for "Destiny: The Taken King" and "The Last of Us Remastered." According to arstechnica, the free downloads were apparently Sony's answer to Xbox's price drop during the holiday season that reached $349 including free game bundle.
Based on how gaming consoles pattern their price drop, they normally cut their price to a 20 percent reduction after two years in the market.
This pattern, however, does not apparently apply to big gaming consoles such as PlayStation and Xbox as they can sustain their market value in the long run.
Smaller and less popular gaming consoles, on the other hand, tend to drop their price in order to stand firm in the market. But the case of the PlayStation 3 was a bit different as it dropped at least 40 percent of its price from its market value of $600 after two years in the market.
Wii, on the other hand, debuted on the market at a less and cheaper price, but significantly took more years before it dropped its price. Xbox also took the trend of price dropping, but retained the agreed price to this day.
So why Japan? Apparently, the PlayStation 3 took a toll on their home gaming consoles that the need for a more modern one is insignificant.
