‘Scream Queen’ Jamie Lee Curtis Recreates Mother’s Famous Shower Scene From ‘Psycho’ in New Series [Pic]
Jamie Lee Curtis has recreated a scene from the infamous movie "Psycho" which featured the death of her mother, Janet Leigh, in a shower. She posted a picture of the recreation on her Twitter page.
According to Vanity Fair, this scene is one of the most iconic in all American cinema and the image has been cemented into history as legendary.
"Psycho" was the complete brainchild of legendary director Alfred Hitchcock, who adapted the story from a novel of the same name by Robert Bloch. It went on to become one of his most legendary works, among many others that he made before it.
This image was presented to the American audiences 18 years before Curtis ever met Michael Myers on the big screen in the 1978 film "Halloween." She paid tribute to her mother as the original scream queen on the set of her new Fox series, also titled "Scream Queens."
She has often honored her mother's memory from that scene and in a Turner Classic Movies special, she said, "My mother makes the most of her screen time. She's sexy and evocative and completely draws you in before her sudden and immediate demise. Despite giving her a lasting fear of showers, my mother always spoke highly of working with Alfred Hitchcock."
The picture was actually a scene that was filmed for her new Fox series and will be featured sometime during its freshman run this fall, according to Variety. It has been given a 15-episode order.
"My entire life I have refused to step into the shower because it belongs to my mother," Curtis told Variety.
"I have attempted to step out of the shadow of my parents for a long time." That basically means that the scene is more of a tribute to her mother as opposed to a reimaging of the terror. "If we're going to go for it, let's go for it. Let's be accurate as we can. And we did," she said.
