‘Hart to Hart’ Remake to Feature Gay Couple [Watch]
"Hart to Hart," the classic ABC series from the '80s, is about to get a remake with a modern twist.
The new series will feature a gay couple, taking over the titular duties the original couple played, according to Deadline.
The new series is "a modern and sexy retelling of the classic series that focuses on 'by the book' attorney Jonathan Hart and free-spirited investigator Dan Hartman, who must balance the two sides of their life: action-packed crime-solving in the midst of newly found domesticity."
The original show featured actors Robert Wagner and Stefanie Powers as power couple Jonathan and Jennifer Hart, who were independently wealthy and were usually seen in action aboard their private jet. But their prowess sometimes got them into trouble and led them to a life as amateur private detectives, getting tangled up in many different criminal activities such as murder, smuggling and theft.
The series followed the couple through their many exploits as they became upper class heroes of sorts. One of the most common themes from their many episodes was stumbling upon murders, which they felt compelled to solve by themselves.
The original series ran from 1979-1984 and, following its five-year run, ended up spawning eight TV movies.
At the time, the series hailed from legendary producers Aaron Spelling and Leonard Goldberg. The new series will be produced by Carol Mendelsohn. It has been written by Christopher Fife and is based on the original material by creator Sidney Sheldon.
The new show will be jumping ship over to NBC and has received a script order from the network.
There has been no word yet as to when the show will go into production or will be premiering on the network. There has also been no word yet as to who will be filling the titular roles.
