‘Star Wars’ Rumors: George Lucas' Space Saga to Hit Netflix?
The epic "Star Wars" saga from creator George Lucas might be making its way to Netflix in the near future, according to Tech Times. There is also good reason to think so, given certain recent developments.
Starting at the beginning, Netflix had inked a deal with Disney in 2012, who now owns Lucasfilm since their acquisition that same year. In the deal, the company would start streaming exclusive Disney films beginning in 2016. This deal would also include the new releases from the company until 2018. For those who are keeping up, that means the new "Star Wars" film set to come out this December will also be covered in the contract.
So here is where the plot thickens.
Speculation had already started online that the first six films in the franchise would be coming to the streaming buffet platform. The rumors were driven by the original Disney deal with Netflix. But until recently, those rumors were nothing more than a floating idea in cyberspace. But now, there has been more concrete evidence that the films are indeed coming, given they already have their own landing pages on the Netflix website. See them below.
"Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace"
"Star Wars: Episode II: Attack of the Clones"
"Star Wars: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith"
"Star Wars: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back"
"Star Wars: Episode VI: Return of the Jedi"
The only "Star Wars" film that is missing from the Netflix platform is the series pilot, "A New Hope." That film may not be included in the deal, but it is too early to tell.
What's even more revealing is Netflix has also recently ended its partnership with Epix, which means it is freeing up its capital for another venture of some sort. This lends even more credibility to the possibility of the two franchise trilogy's appearing on the streaming video buffet giant.
