‘The League’ Star Steve Rannazzisi Lied About 9/11 WTC Tower Escape [Watch]
"The League" actor Steve Rannazzisi has admitted that his story of being in the south World Trade Center tower when the planes hit on 9/11 was a fabrication.
According to NPR, Rannazzisi had been quoted as saying he was in the south tower on that fateful day and that he was working for Merrill Lynch on the 54th floor. He had told Marc Maron in an interview back in 2009 that he had heard about the plane hitting the first tower and went to the ground level and walked outside to see the damage when the second plane hit his tower.
He also told Maron that he was inside the building when the plane hit and he and his co-workers were "jostled all over the place."
The realization of his lie came about following the news of his one-hour special this Saturday on Comedy Central. The New York Times had confronted him about his claim that he left New York for Los Angeles after the events of that day to pursue a career as an entertainer.
The Times confronted Rannazzisi with evidence that disputed his claim and the actor/comedian then took Twitter to admit to his lie and to ask his fans for forgiveness.
After a series of tweets, the actor had made several different appeals to his fans.
"Center towers on 9/11. It wasn't true. I was in Manhattan but working in a building in midtown and I was not at the Trade Center on that day," one of his tweets said.
"As a young man, I made a mistake that I deeply regret and for which apologies may still not be enough," another of his tweets said.
NPR reports that Comedy Central has still not decided as to whether they will move forward with his comedy special this Saturday, following these serious revelations that tarnish his character.
