Xbox 360 Update Features: New Patch Brings 2GB Cloud Storage, Redeem Codes Improvements & More
The Xbox One is the flagship console of Microsoft gaming at the moment, but the company is making sure the last-gen model will still be relevant in the foreseeable future by releasing a feature-packed update for Xbox 360.
The new update assured current Xbox 360 that this previous console is unlikely to be obsolete any time soon. According to a report from Gizmodo, the most compelling upgrade of the newest system update is the additional 2GB of cloud storage. This storage is compatible with the different Xbox consoles, so players will be able to save their files of Xbox 360 games to the backwards-compatible versions on Xbox One.
It's an important feature as the backwards compatibility became an innovative contribution to Xbox consoles' rising sales. Xbox 360 users are now able to make the transition to Xbox One with ease, knowing their favorite games will be playable on the new device.
Xbox head Phil Specter credited the feature last June during a Q&A session on Twitter. He said on his social media account, "June was a good month and I think BC [backwards compatibility] matters. Lots of [Xbox] 360 owners deciding when to make the jump, big focus for us."
In a report from Game Spot, Microsoft executive Mike Ybarra revealed that around 100 Xbox 360 games will be available for playing on Xbox One by the time the holidays roll around, and more well-loved titles are expected to follow. Some of the first games that will be featured in backwards-compatibility are Mass Effect trilogy, Super Meat Boy, Halo Reach, and Perfect Dark Zero.
Aside from more storage space, the latest Xbox 360 update gets the console more user-friendly, according to the Xbox Support website. Download codes sent through messages may now be redeemed directly in the message by pressing a button and players will now be able to see their account balance when browsing the marketplace and checking out games.
Users will also be able to connect the console to networks with a Terms of Use acceptance. More fun features of the system update include an activity feed to connect with friends and access to music and videos from the Microsoft libraries.
For the latest Xbox One console, users will enjoy a new system update this coming November, a report from the Xbox Wire announced. Microsoft has dubbed the new upgrade the Xbox One Experience, promising "a completely re-imagined Xbox One, inspired by your feedback, brings the fastest and most social Xbox experience ever."
