The New York Yankees have defeated the New York Mets 5-0 in the second game of their subway series.

The Bronx Boners are now 81-66. That record is good enough for second place in the American League East behind only the Toronto Blue Jays, who are 85-62.

Dominican starting pitcher Michael Pineda got the nod by Joe Girardi in this game, and he did not allow a single run. Pineda pitched 5.1 innings of scoreless baseball before being relieved by Justin Wilson. The biggest moment of the game came when Puerto Rican outfielder Carlos Beltrán hit a three run homer in the very first inning, and the Yankees never looked back.

Brian McCann hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning to make the score 5-0, and that proved to be the difference. All five runs by the Yankees were scored off the long ball.

Pineda is now 11-8 this year on the mound, whereas Noah Syndergaard dropped to 8-7 for the Mets this year. Despite the loss, the Mets are still in first place in the National League East ahead of the Washington Nationals at the moment.

The Yankees and Mets will play each other again on Sunday at 8 p.m. EDT in Queens to finish up this three-game series.
