Kanye West New Movie Yeezus: Rapper Debuts Trailer for Concert Film [WATCH]
If you missed Kanye West's world tour Yeezus, then you may have another opportunity to partake in Yeezy's glory someday soon.
Kanye teased fans with a trailer of a new upcoming movie, presumably a screen version of his recent "Yeezus" tour. The thirty-one second trailer shows viewers a barrage of clips, pieced together from Kanye's performance and what looks like clips from the recent "Bound 2," the oft-panned video that featured his girlfriend, Kim Kardashian.
Hype Williams will be directing the film. Williams has collaborated with Kanye West on several projects, and has directed over a dozen of the his videos, including "Gold Digge," "Heartless" and "Stronger."
The film is sure to feature a lot of the dark and striking imagery that characterized Kanye's performance, as well as the album that the concert was based upon. Many fans were split on Kanye's sixth studio album, a work in many ways different than his past efforts. The album blended elements of dancehall and electronica, to controversial tracks such as "Black Skinhead" and "Blood on the Leaves" (which samples Billie Holiday's "Strange Fruit"). It received rave reviews from most critics, but some rap purists felt it was a departure from the genre.
Kanye West recently sat down with Seth Meyers on his new late night talk show and discussed how at, at one point during the show, Kanye had donned a bejeweled mask which he kept on for, in Myers words, "like 90 minutes."
"The mask is great," Kanye said. "It's freeing." He went on to say that he felt a person could express one's self more openly in a mask, "without having to live up to whatever you represent, whatever your name means or doesn't mean."
The Guardian recently reported that Kanye West was working on a film with American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis, although it remains unclear if the two projects are at all connected.
Ellis was inspired to work with Kanye after listening to Yeezus.
"He came and asked me to write the film," Ellis said in an interview with Vice. "I didn't want to at first. Then I listened to Yeezus. It was early summer last year and I was driving in my car. He'd given me an advance copy, and I thought, regardless of whether I'm right for this project, I want to work with whoever made this."
There are also reports that Kim Kardashian may have a role in the film.
